Spain registered 2,293 companies in four issues of the BORME, and 68% of them started with exactly €3,000 - what the Spanish gazette gives you that a company database does not

cover

Spain publishes every entry of its company registers in the Boletín Oficial del Registro Mercantil (BORME), a daily gazette of the State. Incorporations, appointments, dissolutions, insolvency orders: one PDF per province per day, with the business purpose written out in full, the share capital, the address and the first officers. On 7 November 2026 I read the week’s incorporations with the Spain New Companies Actor, published the same day, and this is what four issues of the gazette look like as data.

2,293 new companies in four issues

BORME issue New companies
Tuesday 3 Nov 468
Wednesday 4 Nov 596
Thursday 5 Nov 529
Friday 6 Nov 700

The run (daysBack: 7, eventTypes: ["incorporation"], all provinces) returned these four issues: about 570 companies per issue, for a country of 48 million. The week before, Switzerland published 1,050 new companies in five days for 9 million people, and New York State filed 4,598 for 20 million. Spain sits in between per head, and the gazette is where you see it first.

By province, half of the country’s new companies come from four places:

Province New companies Share
Madrid 527 23%
Barcelona 244 11%
Valencia 148 6%
Málaga 145 6%
Alicante 136 6%
Sevilla 88 4%
Balearic Islands 85 4%
Santa Cruz de Tenerife 78 3%

Málaga and Alicante, two coastal provinces, together file more than Barcelona. That is the second half of this article.

€3,000, 1,561 times

Legal form SL 2,187 (95%) · AIE 74 · SLP 20 · SA 7
Median share capital €3,000
Companies with exactly €3,000 1,561 (68%)
Below €3,000 (allowed since 2022, down to €1) 200
€60,000 or more 111
€1 million or more 18
Total capital of the week €157.0 million
Single-shareholder companies 1,114 (49%)
First officers 1,753 sole directors · 944 joint and several directors · 170 joint directors

€3,000 was the legal minimum for a sociedad limitada until the 2022 reform; it is still the number almost everyone types. The 18 companies at €1 million or more are the ones worth a second look for anyone selling to new businesses: they are 0.8% of the week and 55% of its capital.

What the purpose says

The BORME prints the full business purpose, not a code. Only 473 of the 2,293 deeds (21%) cite a CNAE activity code; the other 79% are known only by their text. Counting words in the purpose of all 2,293 companies:

Words in the purpose Companies
real estate (inmobiliaria, inmuebles) 460
construction 437
property development (promoción) 237
consulting (consultoría, asesoría) 234
retail (comercio al por menor) 233
restaurants and hospitality 218
IT and software 119
transport 106
holding 88

A company can match several lines, and a purpose often lists everything the founders might one day do. Still, one new Spanish company in five mentions real estate, and the pattern is geographic. A second run on Málaga and Alicante only, with the keywords inmobiliaria and inmuebles and a minimum capital of €3,000, over the twelve days from 26 October to 6 November, returned 117 companies: 68 in Málaga province, 49 in Alicante; by town, Málaga 24, Alicante 14, Marbella 13, Mijas 9, Jávea 7, Estepona 5. That is a lead list for a notary, a bank or a furniture retailer on the coast, with the purpose, the capital and the registered address of each company, and the Actor can send only the new ones to Slack every morning.

Three dates, and the one that matters

Each notice carries the date of the registry entry (inscripción), the date operations started (usually the date of the deed) and the publication date. Over the 2,291 companies with all three:

Registry entry to publication median 8 days, never less than 7
Start of operations to publication median 22 days
Published within 14 days of starting operations 662 (29%)
Published more than 60 days after starting operations 166

The BORME is a one-week lag on the register, reliably: the first and third quartile are both 8 days. The deed is the slow part, because a company can exist for weeks before its registration is complete. If you want “companies created this week”, the register entry date is the one to filter on, and the Actor gives it to you as registry.registeredOn.

The other side of the gazette

The same run can read the exits. Fourteen days of dissolution and insolvency notices (eventTypes: ["insolvency", "dissolution"], capped at 300 rows, which the two issues of 5 and 6 November filled on their own) gave 217 voluntary dissolutions, 7 judicial ones, 9 for other causes, and 42 insolvency events, 85 of them in Madrid. For a credit team, that is the list to check suppliers against every morning.

What is not in the data

The BORME has no revenue, no employee counts, no e-mail. Postal codes appear on 39% of notices, CNAE codes on 21%. Officers are published with their names, as the law requires; the Actor returns them as printed, so you are responsible for how you use them under the GDPR. And the gazette is in Spanish: keywords must be Spanish words.

Reproduce it

Every incorporation of the last 7 days, all provinces:

{ "daysBack": 7, "eventTypes": ["incorporation"], "maxItems": 3000 }

Real-estate companies with at least €3,000 of capital in Málaga and Alicante:

{ "dateFrom": "2026-10-26", "dateTo": "2026-11-06", "provinces": ["Málaga", "Alicante"], "keywords": ["inmobiliaria", "inmuebles"], "minCapital": 3000 }

$4 per 1,000 companies, plus $0.003 per run. Every row links to the BORME PDF of its province and day, so each count above can be checked against the source.

Source: Boletín Oficial del Registro Mercantil (BORME), section A, issues of 3 to 6 November 2026, read from boe.es on 7 November 2026. Counts are of published notices with an incorporation act; a notice with several acts (incorporation plus appointments) counts once.
